Abstract:
The whole herbal of Echinacea Purpurea is very rich in phenolic compound, and some alkylamides (Neoherculin), flavonoids, polysaccharides and volatile oil. The phenolic compound has most biological activity, it includes Caffeic acid, Chicoric Acid (Cichoric acid), echinacoside, chlorogenic acid, quinine acid, cichoric acid methyl ester, p-hydroxybenzoic acid, p-coumaric acid, ferulic acid, vanillic acid, caftaric acid, cynarin, ethyl calleate etc.
In the phenolic compounds from Echinacea Purpurea, the Chicoric acid (cichoric acid), echinacoside and caftaric acid are the most.
Chicoric acid (cichoric acid) is is the most active compound in Echinacea pupurea, Chicoric acid (cichoric acid) is a caffeic acid derivative, belonging to the group of polypfenols. Chicoric acid (cichoric acid) is very stable in dry conditions but can be broken down by enzymes, which are found in the Echinacea, in moist conditions.
